Sangamon Sun

There were three offenders convicted of sex crimes released on parole in Sangamon County during the first quarter of 2020, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Sangamon Sun.

The data shows that all of the released offenders among the parolees were men. Of the parolees sentenced for sex crimes, one was a veteran, and the median age was 52. The youngest parolee was a 45-year-old man sentenced in 2012, and the oldest was a 58-year-old man sentenced in 2003.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was George A. Maybee. He was convicted in 2018 when he was 52 years old. He is now 54.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
