Gov. J.B. Pritzker said he would be bridging the gap in education funding with an additional $350 million in an evidence-based system, which will help all involved parties in this academic year.
This comes after the governor previously announced that funding would remain flat this year.
"Advocacy is important, and this funding will make a tremendous difference," Sen. Doris Turner (D-Carlinville) posted to Facebook May 12.
Additional praise was offered from Democratic legislative leaders pleased to see the increased funding coming to schools.
According to Chicago Sun-Times, in a news conference, Pritzker mentioned that Illinois is doing incredibly well currently, even better than it was three months ago. He then announced that there would be additional funds made available for schools.
Pritzker also stated a clear need for fixing the state's structural budget issues and that legislators needed to work on tightening up corporate tax loopholes that have benefitted larger corporations mostly.
A spokeswoman for Illinois the House speaker, Emanuel Welch, said that he was pleased with the governor's decision and the action he is taking toward more funding.
