SIUE Women's Tennis Overpowers Lindenwood

SIUE women's tennis claimed the first win in the match for the Coomer Golden Racket with a 7-0 victory over Lindenwood at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center.

SIUE improved to 11-3 overall after its first Ohio Valley Conference match of the season. Lindenwood dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the OVC.

The Coomer Golden Racket honors former SIUE administrator and women's tennis coach Jason Coomer, who now serves as the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics at Lindenwood. The Coomer Golden Racket will be a traveling trophy for the winner of the regular season match between the two schools.

"We've kind of gone back and forth between indoors and outdoors," said SIUE Head Coach Adam Albertsen. "It was good to come in here and play really clean in front of the home crowd."

Numerous former tennis players and current SIUE student-athletes were watching as the Cougars won straight sets in all matches,

"It was an awesome crowd. We're so appreciative," added Albertsen.

Jordan Schifano continued to roll for the Cougars, collecting the first singles point for the Cougars with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Juiana Kulczynski. Schifano is a team-leading 17-5 for the Cougars, including an 11-3 record in No. 3 singles matches.

"Jordan just plays so sound," said Albertsen. "Her game is so consistent and you saw it again today."

Jill Lambrechts also was perfect for the day and did not surrender a game in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Alina Jensterle at No. 1 singles.

"It's good to see her play at a high level," noted Albertsen. "She can play off that going into Tennessee State."

SIUE next heads to Nashville, Tennessee, where the team faces Tennessee State Sunday at the Currey Tennis Center Complex at Vanderbilt.
