The veto session has come to a close, leaving a significant amount of work ahead for the residents of the 95th District and the state of Illinois. However, it appears that the supermajority party has chosen to ignore crucial issues that are affecting our state. Despite pleas from Republicans and students, the Speaker remained silent and refused to address the importance of the Invest in Kids school choice program. As a result, this popular program will come to an end, leaving thousands of low-income families struggling to find alternative ways to afford their children's education.

The lack of action on critical issues goes beyond education. Illinois continues to be plagued by corruption, particularly in Chicago, yet the General Assembly has failed to have a proactive conversation about ethics reform. It is evident that this topic is not a priority for the majority party.

However, the Republican lawmakers remain committed to fighting for the people of Illinois and proposing legislation that benefits taxpayers rather than politicians. Their priorities include lasting tax relief for Illinois families, stronger anti-corruption laws, stricter ethics regulations for elected officials, increased transparency and accountability from state agencies, an end to the moratorium on nuclear construction, extending the Invest in Kids Scholarship Program, continued support for law enforcement, and holding criminals accountable for their actions.

Representative Coffey, for example, co-sponsored a bill aimed at lowering the price of insulin. This demonstrates the dedication of Republican lawmakers to addressing the needs and concerns of the people they represent.

Despite the challenges they face, the Republican party's common-sense legislation and priorities have the potential to make a lasting impact on Illinois families. Their focus on tax relief, ethics reform, transparency, education, and law enforcement shows a commitment to putting the needs of the people first.

As the work continues for the Republican lawmakers, they remain steadfast in their mission to prioritize the well-being of the people of Illinois. By advocating for legislation that benefits taxpayers and holds elected officials accountable, they aim to bring about positive change for the state. It is an uphill battle, but their dedication to the people and their unwavering commitment to their priorities give hope for a better future for Illinois.
