The Illinois College women's cross country team has been projected to finish eighth at the Midwest Conference Championships, according to a poll released by the league today.

Illinois College will return its top three competitors from last season's championship: Kairy Mercado-Ramos, Claire Peters, and Morgan Carrino.

Grinnell College, which secured its inaugural title in 1995 and has since added ten more, including the most recent in fall 2023, is favored to defend its title. In the 2024 preseason poll of league head coaches, Grinnell received seven first-place votes and one second-place vote, accumulating 63 points.

Lawrence University, the 2021 MWC Champion, finished second in the coaches' poll with two first-place votes and 53 points. Ripon College, which won the title in 2022, followed closely with 51 points for third place.

Cornell College garnered 46 points for fourth place. Lake Forest College took fifth with 34 points. Monmouth College (25), Beloit College (19), Illinois College (17), and Knox College (16) were selected for the final four positions.

The 2024 MWC Cross Country Championships are scheduled for Saturday, November 2, at Reid Municipal Golf Course in Appleton, Wisconsin. The women's race will commence at 11:00 a.m.
