The Illinois College men's soccer team secured a 2-1 victory over Westminster on Thursday evening at Kent & Judith Mueller Stadium, Fulton, Mo. The win improved IC's record to 2-1 for the season, while Westminster dropped to 0-3.
Reed Rogers initiated the scoring for IC with an unassisted goal just 3:58 into the match. This lead held through the remainder of the first half. Early in the second half, Tyler Schiltz added to IC's advantage with another unassisted goal at 46:16.
Westminster managed to score at the 84:13 mark, narrowing the gap to one goal, but could not equalize before time ran out. Despite being outshot by Westminster 8-6, TJ Esseily made four saves to help secure the win for IC.
Rogers led IC's offensive efforts with two shots, while Schiltz, Tyler Lunning, Aidan Gowan, and Jives Efemini each contributed one shot.
Rogers has now scored in each of IC's two victories this season. Esseily has been in net for both wins.
IC continues its season-opening road trip on Sunday with a match against the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis at 1:00 p.m.
