The 23rd Annual Illinois Route 66 Mother Road Festival and car show will be held in downtown Springfield from September 27-29. This event is known for attracting car enthusiasts and families from the community. The festival will feature live music, the Old Capitol Farmers Market, bounce houses for children, and the well-known burnout competition.

In addition to the festival activities, the Illinois State Museum is seeking stories related to Route 66 as part of its preparations for the highway's 100th anniversary in 2026. U.S. Highway 66 was a significant route that operated as a federal highway from 1926 until it was decommissioned in 1985. The museum aims to collect experiences from individuals who traveled on the Illinois segment of this historic road.

"Route 66 was an iconic highway that captured the imagination of the American traveler and made for the quintessential road trip," a spokesperson said.

More information about how to share stories can be found on the museum's website.
