The Illinois College women's golf team began their campaign at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships with a promising start on Sunday in Metamora, Illinois. The Lady Blues concluded the first day with a team score of 330, placing them fourth among ten teams.
Kate Burr led the team with an impressive four over-par 76, featuring splits of 37 and 39. Burr's performance included birdies on holes 10 and 13, putting her in a three-way tie for eighth place overall.
Katie Mae Milhiser also delivered a strong opening round, shooting seven over-par 79. She started her back-nine with a birdie on hole 10 and is currently tied for 11th place overall along with four other competitors.
First-year player Shelby Seiler achieved her career-best round, finishing eight over-par at 80 with splits of 41 and 39. Like her teammates, she made a birdie on hole 10 to begin her back-nine.
Additional contributions came from Amy Fowler (87), Alyvia Burr (88), and Hannah Harpster (91). Emily Guest participated as well, completing the round with a score of 94. Overall, the team recorded five birdies on day one, led by Kate Burr who had two.
"We got off to a solid start. Kate Burr and Katie Mae Milhiser really set the tone for us with scores under 80. We look forward to moving up the leaderboard tomorrow," said Head Coach Josh Edison.
The Lady Blues will continue their pursuit at the SLIAC Championships on Monday, October 9th. The second round is scheduled to commence at Metamora Fields Golf Course at 10:00 AM.
