The Illinois College men's and women's swim teams began their 2023-24 season with a dual meet at Millikin University, competing against North Central College. Both teams emerged victorious, winning both medley relays.
In the men's events, the 200-yard medley team comprising Xaiver Applegate, Eli Eberle, Nathen Trachta, and Tristan Pottebaum clocked a relay time of 1:47.90. For the women, the 200-yard medley relay team of Jenna Kenning, Julie Edwards, Emma Dunsworth, and Jena Sellers finished in 2:04.39.
Nathen Trachta excelled in the men's 200-yard freestyle with a first-place finish at 1:55.17 and also led in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.56. Eli Eberle secured first place in the men's 100-yard freestyle at 51.24. Cooper Meyer achieved second place in his event with a time of 24:30, closely followed by newcomer Tristan Pottebaum at 24.77.
On the women's side, Abigail Glaser claimed victories in both the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events with times of 6:03.15 and 12:26.47 respectively. Julie Edwards led in the women's 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:16.91.
Mackenzie Strong and Matthew Billenstein participated as part of Diversity Week celebrations despite facing various challenges in water sports. Strong placed third overall in the women's 200-yard freestyle at 2:41.71 and competed in the women's 500-yard freestyle finishing at 7:06.49. Billenstein set a personal record in the men's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 45.19 and also competed in the men's 100-yard freestyle finishing at 1:49.85.
Both Illinois College swim teams are scheduled to host Monmouth College on Saturday, November 4 at their home venue.
