The Illinois College men's soccer team began their Midwest Conference play with a victory against Ripon College on Saturday. The Blueboys emerged victorious with a 2-1 win, improving their overall record to 6-3-1 and starting the conference season at 1-0.
During the first half, both teams created scoring opportunities but neither managed to find the back of the net. The Blueboys had nine shots compared to Ripon's six.
Ripon took the lead in the 52nd minute with a goal from Jacob Oppeneer. However, Illinois College quickly responded. Tyler Schiltz equalized five minutes later, and shortly after, Tyler Lunning scored another goal for IC, assisted by Reed Rogers, securing a 2-1 lead.
Overall, Illinois College outshot Ripon 18-13, with nine of those being on target. Schiltz led his team with four shots while Jason Hernandez and Lunning contributed three each. Goalkeeper Owen Macias made two saves during the match.
Illinois College is set to host Elmhurst College at England Stadium on Tuesday, September 26 at 4:30 PM.
