Illinois College men's soccer defeats Monmouth to stay atop conference standings

The Illinois College men's soccer team secured a decisive 4-0 victory against Monmouth, maintaining their leading position in the Midwest Conference standings. The match took place on Tuesday at Peacock Memorial Athletic Park.

This win advances Illinois College's record to 10-3-1 overall and an unbeaten 4-0-0 in conference play. Meanwhile, Monmouth's record stands at 2-8-2 overall and 0-3-1 in conference games.

Illinois College dominated from the start. Reed Rogers opened the scoring with a penalty kick at the 26:29 mark of the first half. Carver Taylor extended the lead just under 20 minutes later, sending the Blueboys into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.

In the second half, Tyler Schiltz scored at 59:53 to make it 3-0. Eben Reed concluded the scoring for Illinois College at 68:43, assisted by Thomas Menke.

The Blueboys out-shot Monmouth's Fighting Scots by a margin of 14 to 7, with eight shots on goal. Schiltz, Rogers, Toby Ybarra, and Oscar Liogon Arenas each recorded two shots.

Goalkeeper TJ Esseily achieved a shutout for Illinois College.

Illinois College is currently unbeaten in its last seven Midwest Conference matches dating back to last season and remains undefeated in their past six matches overall.

The team will continue their road schedule on Saturday with a match against Lawrence in another Midwest Conference clash starting at 11:00 a.m.
