The Illinois College men's soccer team set a new record for victories in a single season with a 4-1 win over Lawrence at Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl. This win marked their 11th victory, surpassing the previous record of 10 wins achieved by four different teams in past years.
Illinois College improved its overall record to 11-3-1 and maintained an undefeated streak in the Midwest Conference with a 5-0-0 standing. In contrast, Lawrence's record fell to 2-8-4 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play.
The Blueboys took an early lead when Tyler Schiltz scored just over eight minutes into the game. Daniel Garcia increased their advantage with a goal assisted by Schiltz before halftime. The second half saw additional goals from Tyler Lunning and Aidan Gowin, solidifying Illinois College's commanding position. Although Lawrence managed to score late in the game, it was not enough to challenge Illinois College's lead.
Oscar Liogon Arenas led Illinois College with four shots, while Schiltz and Lunning each contributed three shots. Goalkeeper Daniel Happach played the entire match and made three saves, reinforcing his status as the conference's Defensive Performer of the Week.
Reflecting on their achievement, Illinois College has remained unbeaten in its last eight regular-season matches within the Midwest Conference and is currently on a seven-match unbeaten run. Over the past two seasons, they have accumulated a strong record of 21-8-4.
Looking ahead, Illinois College will host Lake Forest next Saturday during Homecoming. The match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., where both teams will compete for first place in the Midwest Conference standings.
