Illinois College's baseball team faced a challenging start to their 2024 Florida schedule, losing both games of a double-header against Saint Mary's University at the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational. The Blueboys now have an overall record of 4-2 for the season.

In the first game, Illinois College fell to Saint Mary's with a score of 2-5. Branson Shaw started on the mound but was replaced by Jacob Smith after just three batters due to a weather delay. Despite strong performances from Smith and reliever Ben Jarboe, who combined for nine strikeouts, Illinois College couldn't hold back Saint Mary's offense in the sixth inning. "With two outs, SMU added four additional runs in the inning that sealed the victory for the Cardinals."

The second game ended with Illinois College losing 5-10. Jack McGuire started as pitcher and managed nine strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Although IC briefly took a lead thanks to Tyler Barker's two-run home run and Ryan Huskey's ground rule double, they couldn't maintain it against SMU's strong batting performance later in the game.

The Blueboys will look to improve their standing when they face Moravian University next at the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational.
