Illinois College splits series against Eureka College

The Illinois College baseball team faced Eureka College in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday. The Blueboys split the series, winning the first game 13-1 and losing the second 7-8. This result brings their overall record to 13-3.

In the opening game, Jacob Smith started for Illinois College, delivering a strong performance with six innings pitched and three strikeouts. After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, IC responded in the third with Ryne Mapes' double followed by Adam Passmore's single to tie the game.

IC took control in the sixth inning, scoring eight runs highlighted by Louie Bartletti's two-run homer. Jonathan Odom added to the lead with an RBI single in the seventh inning, contributing to a final score of 13-1.

The second game saw Illinois College take an early lead with Bartletti hitting a two-run home run in the first inning. Jon Tate added another two-run homer in the third, extending their advantage to 4-0. Despite leading 7-0 after Bartletti's second home run of the day, Eureka mounted a comeback.

Joshua Frenden tied it up for Eureka with a three-run homer in the seventh inning. Chase Ulrich then secured their victory with an RBI single that concluded at 8-7.

Bartletti and Mapes led IC offensively with three hits each during this game, while Aiden Lougeay pitched four innings for IC, recording two strikeouts.

Illinois College will next face Monmouth College on March 23 as they begin Midwest Conference play.
