The Illinois College baseball team faced the University of Chicago in a double-header on Saturday at Joe Brooks Field, resulting in two losses for the Blueboys. The games concluded their Midwest Conference weekend series.
In the first game, Illinois College fell to Chicago with a score of 0-12. Jack McGuire started as pitcher for the Blueboys and began strong with three consecutive flyouts. However, the Maroons quickly took control, starting with a solo home run by Jack Goldstein and an RBI single from Jack Sharp in the second inning. Mike Gladden and Erik Rindner added to Chicago's lead with back-to-back home runs in the third inning.
Tyler Allen came in as relief pitcher for IC during the sixth inning but struggled to contain Chicago's offense, which capitalized on a wild pitch and continued scoring through a two-run home run. Jonathan Zeevi contributed an RBI single in the seventh inning to finalize Chicago's commanding victory.
The second game saw Illinois College initially take a 4-0 lead after Charlie Lardi delivered two scoreless innings on his second start of the season. Louie Bartletti and Connor Hennemann drove early offensive efforts, while Logan Schweigert hit a two-run homerun.
However, Chicago rallied in the sixth inning with six runs, ultimately overtaking Illinois College 11-6 by game's end. Adam Passmore and Ryne Mapes attempted late-game comebacks for IC with key hits but could not close the gap.
Illinois College will next play against Ripon College on April 6th as part of another Midwest Conference series.
