Illinois College splits double-header against Grinnell to close regular season

The Illinois College baseball team concluded its 2024 regular season with a double-header against Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. The Blueboys lost the first game 2-4 but bounced back in the second game with a decisive 13-8 victory.

In the first game, Illinois College's pitcher Charlie Lardi made his sixth start of the season. Grinnell took an early lead with a sacrifice flyout, but Louie Bartletti tied it up for Illinois College with his eleventh home run of the season. Ryne Mapes later scored to give Illinois College a brief lead. However, Grinnell regained control in the sixth inning and held on to win 4-2.

Game two saw Branson Shaw starting for Illinois College. Grinnell began strong with four runs in the first inning, but Illinois College responded by narrowing the gap throughout the game. A six-run eighth inning propelled them into the lead, which they maintained to secure a 13-8 win.

For Illinois College, multiple players contributed significantly to their offensive efforts. In pitching, Aden Emery was credited with the win while Jarboe secured his second save of the season.

The Blueboys finished their regular season with an overall record of 21-18 and a conference record of 8-15.
