The Illinois College baseball team secured a victory against Penn State-Abington during the 2024 Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational at Northeast Regional Park. Louie Bartletti led the Blueboys with his first career multi-home run game, hitting two home runs and driving in four runs, contributing to a 7-3 win over the Nittany Lions. This victory improves Illinois College's overall season record to 7-2.

Branson Shaw started on the mound for the Blueboys but faced challenges early in the first inning as Penn State-Abington managed three hits that resulted in two runs. In response, Ryne Mapes began the bottom of the inning with a walk and later scored on Bartletti's two-run home run, tying the game at 2-2.

Shaw found his rhythm in the second inning, striking out all batters and continuing to pitch scoreless innings through to the fifth inning, maintaining a tied score. In the bottom of the fifth, Mapes hit a double followed by Bartletti's second home run of the day, giving Illinois College a 4-2 lead.

In the sixth inning, Jake Fallers from Abington hit a triple but was prevented from scoring due to an impressive throw by Ryan Huskey that completed an inning-ending double play. Jon Tate initiated another scoring opportunity for Illinois College with a single in their half of the sixth inning. He scored on Huskey's RBI triple, which was then followed by Mapes driving in Huskey for a 6-2 lead.

Shaw continued his effective pitching into the seventh inning before being relieved after recording six scoreless innings. A sacrifice flyout by Hennemann added another run for Illinois College, making it 7-2. Abington managed one more run in the eighth with Donato Incolingo's RBI single. First-year reliever Charlie closed out the game with five outs and one strikeout.

Bartletti stood out offensively with three hits and four RBIs while Mapes, Hennemann, and Huskey each contributed one RBI. Shaw pitched seven innings with eight strikeouts and earned credit for this win.

Illinois College will finish their Florida series against North Central University of Minnesota on Friday night at Davenport.
