Illinois College secures late win against Cornell in Midwest Conference

The Illinois College men's soccer team secured a 4-2 victory over Cornell in a Midwest Conference match held at the Cornell Soccer Stadium. This result was achieved through an impressive offensive display in the final minutes of the game.

Illinois College, with this win, improved its record to 12-4-1 overall and 6-1-0 in conference play. On the other hand, Cornell's record fell to 4-11-1 and 2-4-1.

Cornell took an early lead when Gaurab Khadka scored just over five minutes into the match. Illinois College equalized with a goal from Jacob Pelletier at the 31-minute mark. Khadka restored Cornell's lead shortly before halftime, scoring off a pass from Jake Elmore.

The second half remained goalless until late in the game when Illinois College turned the tide. Nate Kapitz leveled the score at 81:39 with assistance from Oscar Liogon Arenas. Jacob Pelletier then put Illinois College ahead with his second goal at 83:15. Tyler Schiltz sealed the win for Illinois College by scoring with only seconds left on the clock.

Throughout the match, Illinois College outshot Cornell 17 to 10, led by Schiltz and Tyler Lunning who each attempted four shots. Jacob Pelletier and Thomas Menke contributed two shots each. Goalkeeper TJ Esseily played a full game for Illinois College, making three saves.

The victory marked a new single-season school record for wins for Illinois College, matching their previous record of six conference victories set by their 1993 team.

Illinois College is set to host Beloit on Senior Day in their final home game of the regular season, scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. kickoff.
