Lake Forest wins Midwest Conference title over Illinois College

Lake Forest defeated Illinois College in the Midwest Conference Tournament championship match on Saturday at Mohr Field. The Foresters secured a 2-1 victory, ending Illinois College's season with a record of 13-5-3. Lake Forest, the top seed in the tournament, advanced to the NCAA Tournament with a 10-7-3 record.

The game remained scoreless through the first half until Nathan Kostovesky scored for Lake Forest with an assist from Peter Cirob at 48:44. Gustavo Machado added another goal shortly after at 50:35, which became the game-winner.

Illinois College responded with a goal by Oscar Liogon Arenas at 78:08 but could not equalize. Lake Forest out-shot Illinois College 14-10 during the match. Jacob Pelletier led Illinois College with two shots.

In goal, TJ Esseily played the first 36:55 before being replaced by Daniel Happach, who recorded two saves.

The Blueboys reached their second conference tournament final and set a school record with 13 victories this season. Senior Tyler Schiltz ended his career as Illinois College's all-time leader in goals, assists, points, and shots.
