A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Sangamon County Sheriff's Department regarding a comprehensive list of all arrests made in the year 2024. The request was sent on January 7, 2025.
The request, filed by us at Sangamon Sun, seeks access to detailed arrest records for the entire year of 2024. The information sought includes specific fields such as the arrestee's name, date of arrest, gender, race, date of birth and the crime committed.
As a media organization dedicated to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to these public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities.
