FOIA Request to Logan County Il Elections Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Sangamon Sun have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Logan County Il Elections Division. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and we asked for the information preferably in electronic format.
Our request is focused on obtaining a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. We have requested specific details about each candidate including their first, middle and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation.
In addition to this, we also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await response from the Logan County Il Elections Division regarding our request.
