State Representative Mike Coffey from Springfield has expressed his dissatisfaction with Governor JB Pritzker's recent State of the State and Budget Address. Following the address, Coffey issued a statement criticizing the governor's approach and fiscal policies.

Coffey remarked, "Today, I was disappointed by Governor Pritzker’s address to the House of Representatives. Instead of offering a unifying vision for Illinois, he resorted to divisive rhetoric, even comparing Trump Republicans to Nazis. Such inflammatory language does nothing to solve the serious challenges facing our state."

The budget proposed by Governor Pritzker is set at $55 billion, marking it as the largest in Illinois history. According to Coffey, this represents a 38% increase since Pritzker took office. Despite this increase in spending, Coffey claims that the budget remains unbalanced with a $425 million deficit based on current revenue levels.

Coffey criticized spending priorities within the budget: "Rather than prioritizing the needs of hardworking Illinois citizens, the state has spent $2.8 billion on migrant programs and continues funding welcome shelters at taxpayers’ expense." He also pointed out what he perceives as fiscal mismanagement by Illinois Democrats.

As a representative for Illinois' 95th District, Coffey emphasized his commitment to advocating for economic growth through reform and policy changes rather than tax increases. He stated that families in Illinois require property tax relief due to high taxation rates which he believes are driving residents away from the state.

"The Republican Caucus will stand firm in demanding a truly balanced budget without tax increases," said Coffey. His focus remains on ensuring that Illinois is affordable for its residents.
