Illinois College baseball splits games against Saint Mary's University

Illinois College's baseball team began its spring break series in Winter Haven, Florida, with a doubleheader against Saint Mary's University (Minn.). The Blueboys achieved a 6-2 win in the first game but suffered a 9-0 loss in the second.

This result brings Illinois College to a 2-3 record for the season, while Saint Mary's starts at 1-1.

In Game 1, Louie Bartletti gave Illinois College an early lead with his first home run of the season. Although Saint Mary's scored in the bottom of the first inning, Illinois College added two more runs in the second and maintained their lead. Jack McGuire pitched five innings for his first win of the season, allowing two earned runs and striking out five. Branson Shaw secured the save.

Game 2 saw Saint Mary's dominate from the start, scoring three runs in the opening inning. Illinois College's starter Anthony Buonaura pitched three innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out five. Offensively, Illinois College struggled with only two hits—a double by Adam Passmore and a single from Nathan Walker—and issued ten walks during the game.

Illinois College will continue its series on Monday, March 3, against Albion College at 9:00 AM.
