Illinois Democrats have recently passed House Bill 3637, which permits the use of drugs approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) but denied by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) within the state. This decision has been met with opposition from some lawmakers who argue that it poses significant health risks.

Representative Coffey expressed his disapproval of the bill, stating, "I voted NO to this illegal protocol because it’s not safe, which is why 49 other states don’t allow it." He emphasized that such a measure could endanger Illinois residents if enacted into law by the governor. According to Coffey, Illinois is compromising existing safety protocols, potentially leading to unintended negative consequences.

Coffey further warned about the potential health risks associated with HB3637. He stated, "HB3637 opens the door to health risks, and our state is rolling the dice on protecting the health and well-being of every Illinois citizen."

The bill's passage marks a contentious point in Illinois' legislative landscape as discussions continue regarding drug approval standards and public safety.
