State Representative Joe Sosnowski of Rockford expressed his views following the sentencing of former House Speaker Michael Madigan. Madigan was sentenced in federal court on Friday after being convicted on 10 felony charges, including bribery, conspiracy, and wire fraud.
Sosnowski commented, "No one is above the law. Speaker Madigan was found guilty of gaming the system for personal gain. The people of Illinois expect more from their leaders and deserve an ethical state government. We need to stop the culture of pay-to-play politics that has allowed corruption to run rampant in Illinois for decades."
Madigan received a sentence of 90 months in prison and a fine totaling $2.5 million.
Representative Sosnowski represents the 69th District, which covers parts of Winnebago, Boone, and McHenry Counties.
