State Representative Joe Sosnowski of Rockford has expressed his views on the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision regarding nationwide injunctions. The ruling, passed with a 6-3 vote, limits federal judges' ability to block executive orders from the President.
In his statement, Rep. Sosnowski remarked: “Today’s common-sense ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court restores the principle of separation of powers required under the U.S. Constitution that has been abused by activist judges in recent years." He referenced data from the Congressional Research Service indicating that 86 nationwide injunctions were issued during President Trump's first term and approximately 25 in just the first 100 days of his second term.
Rep. Sosnowski emphasized that this decision will allow current and future Presidents to enforce federal immigration laws more effectively, particularly concerning border security and deportation processes for non-citizens with criminal records or existing deportation orders. "A President must be able to implement the policies the American people elected him to accomplish," he stated, adding that this ruling is "a major victory for checks and balances and the rule of law."
Representative Sosnowski represents Illinois' 69th District, which includes parts of Winnebago, Boone, and McHenry Counties.
