City of Petersburg City Council met June 3

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

I. CALL TO ORDER

The City Council was called to order at 7:03 p.m. by Mayor Snyder.

II. PRELIMINARY MATTERS

A. Roll Call. Members present were Aldermen Megan Loberg-Simmering, Mike Allison, Rick Sonnemaker, Bruce Gorman and Andrew Gain. Also present were Mayor Snyder, Former Treasurer David Frick, Treasurer Melissa Riley, Attorney Jason Brokaw (arrived at 7:14) and City Clerk John Ramage. Alderman Neil Conklin was absent.

B. Mayor Snyder led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.

C. A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman

Gain to approve the agenda. VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Loberg-Simmering, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

III. CITY CLERK

A. The City Clerk presented the Warrant List and Accounts Payable.

After a review, a motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman Gain to approve payment of the bills as listed on the

Warrant List and Accounts Payable. VOTES: Gorman, yes; Loberg- Simmering, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

B. The minutes for May 20, 2025, the city council meeting was presented. A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman Allison to approve the May 20, 2025, Regular City Council Meeting minutes. VOTES: Loberg-Simmering, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

IV. HEARING OF CITIZENS

1. Lindsay Wilken - Menard Caring Food Pantry - Farmers Market. Lindsay Wilken with the Menard Caring Food Pantry, at the Community Cottage in Petersburg, proposed a Farmers Market with 8 - 10 vendors be allowed near the square, weekly, starting July 12th through Octoberfest. The Farmers Market would start at 9:00am and continue until noon. The closure would be for Douglas Rd between 8th Street eastward to the alley next to O'Reilly's Auto Parts.

After discussion, a motion was made by Alderman Sonnemaker and seconded by Alderman Loberg-Simmering to approve the Farmers Market and street closures associated, as listed above. VOTES: Gain, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Loberg- Simmering, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

Post-Meeting Notes. Per conversation w/ Lindsay Wilken, the Farmers Market times will be on the last Friday of the month, starting on July 25, and running through October.

V. DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS

A. Police

1. Police Department Monthly Report was given by Chief Mike Nichols.

There were 141 calls for service last month. The calls for service were consistent with past months. Chief Nichols provided a list with a break-down of the calls for May. Also, Chief Nichols said the department is now fully staffed.

B. Fire

1.The Fire Department Monthly Report was given by Chief Eric Hubner.

The department received thirty-four calls for service and a breakdown of the calls was provided.

Additionally, the department assisted the police department with the Drinkin' with Lincoln event, conducted a driving competency test on the main engine, implemented a medical evaluation program, performed building repairs, and initiated generator installation discussions.

VI. OFFICERS' REPORTS

A. Mayor's Report

1.Vote to accept Road Program Bid from IRC Contingent on there being no protest.

The mayor provided an update on Road Program Bid from IRC. After discussion, a motion made by Alderman Gain seconded by Alderman Sonnemaker to approve the IRC bid contingent on there being no protest to the bid/proposal. VOTES: Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Conklin, yes; Loberg-Simmering, yes; Gain, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

B. Treasurer

1. Set Budget Meeting.

Treasurer Melissa Riley determined a budget meeting was not needed now and should be scheduled during the next council meeting.

VI. STANDING COMMITTEES’ REPORT

None

VII. SPECIAL COMMITTEES’ REPORT

1. Recommendation from the Personnel Committee to Hire 3 Part-time Summer Employees. Rick Sonnemaker, Chair of the Personnel Committee, recommended that the city hire three part-time employees, at $17.00 per hour for the summer. These employees would be used primarily by the water and street departments. After discussion a motion made by Alderman Sonnemaker seconded by Alderman Gorman to approve the hiring of three part-time employees for the summer at the rate of $17.00 per hour.

VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Loberg-Simmering, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

X. NEW BUSINESS

1. Attorney Jason Brokaw made the council aware of legislation that was being considered at the State level, that might impact the city in the future.

XII. ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Alderman Gain and seconded by Alderman Gorman to adjourn the meeting. VOTES: Gorman, yes; Loberg-Simmering, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED. Meeting Adjourned at 8:45p.m.
