Last week, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed 124 bills into law, among them House Bill 57. State Representative Kevin Schmidt, a Republican from Millstadt who represents the 114th District including part of St. Clair County, commented on the legislation after its approval.

“My bill closes the gap between community integrated living arrangements and other state-run facilities whose visitation rights were limited, and I’m happy to finally see HB57 become law,” said Rep. Schmidt. “This change to the Essential Support Person Act will have a positive impact on communities across the state of Illinois.”

House Bill 57 was signed into law by Governor Pritzker on August 1, 2025.

For further information, constituents are encouraged to contact Rep. Schmidt’s office at (618)-215-1050.

Coffey, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state's 95th House District, replacing previous state representative Tim Butler.
