Aliza Rodriguez scored in the first half to give Illinois College women's soccer a 1-0 win over Principia in their season opener at England Stadium. The goal, coming at the 33:32 mark, was the sixth of Rodriguez's career.
Goalkeeper Stella Gonzalez, also a sophomore, kept a clean sheet and made one save during the match. Illinois College controlled much of the game, outshooting Principia by a margin of 33-2. Olivia Ralston led all players with seven shots, while Abbi Renwick contributed six attempts on goal. Rodriguez added four shots alongside her decisive score.
The Lady Blues will next travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, where they will play Nebraska Wesleyan on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
