Two organizations in Illinois' 95th District have been selected to receive Adult Volunteer Literacy grants aimed at supporting adults who read below the ninth-grade level or are beginning English speakers. The grants provide funding for instruction in reading, writing, math, and English language proficiency through programs led by trained volunteer tutors.
Fishes & Loaves Outreach will receive $62,400, while Lincoln Land Community College has been awarded $69,899 under the program. The initiative is designed to improve literacy skills among adult learners with support from unpaid volunteers.
Coffey, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state's 95th House District, replacing previous state representative Tim Butler.
According to the Adult Volunteer Literacy Grant Program (ilsos.gov), these services are intended to help adults gain essential skills for daily life and employment opportunities.
