March 19, 2024 - Illinois, along with four other states, is gearing up for its Primary Election Day on Tuesday, March 19. Following the recent confirmation of Joe Biden and Donald Trump as the presidential candidates for the upcoming General Election on November 5, 2024, Illinois voters are preparing to make their voices heard in the primary elections.

In the midst of national political developments, Illinois voters will not only participate in selecting presidential nominees and delegates but will also have the opportunity to vote for nominees for various governmental positions. This includes candidates for the U.S. House, Illinois House, select Illinois Senate seats, as well as elections for Illinois' judiciary, and local government offices such as the County Board and County officials.

Moreover, residents of the City of Chicago will have a unique chance to vote on a Real Estate Transfer Tax referendum during this election cycle. This primary marks the second election under the new legislative maps redrawn in 2020, which followed the decennial census and reapportionment process. For many voters, it will be their first time casting ballots in the newly established judicial districts resulting from the remap process.

As the election day approaches, the Illinois State Board of Elections has provided information to help voters exercise their rights effectively. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and voters can access sample ballots and voter assistance resources through their local Election Authority. Voters are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the voting systems and procedures in place to ensure a smooth voting experience.

Candidates, political parties, and civic organizations have the opportunity to appoint pollwatchers to observe polling place procedures, while voters are encouraged to report any fraudulent activities. It is crucial for every eligible voter to engage in the democratic process and make informed decisions during this important election day in Illinois.
