Sangamon OEM committee discusses pre-travel request for conference

Lepc

The Sangamon County Office of Emergency Management and 911 committee met on Feb. 24 to discuss a pre-travel request for a conference.

The Midwest Emergency Preparedness and Response Conference is being held in Rockford on April 12 and 13. The conference is hosted by the Winnebago County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC).

David Butt would represent the  Sangamon County Office of Emergency Management.

The conference will address multiple topics focusing on modern emergency management and how technology shapes the field, including social media platforms such as Twitter. The event will be covering updates from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA).

Recent events such as the Lee County tornado response in 2015 and the response to the BNSF Galena Derailment will be reviewed and discussed.

The conference will be held at Giovanni’s Restaurant and Convention Center in Rockford. There will be a special rate for conference attendees at the Holiday Inn of Rockford on East State Street.

Minutes from the committee's meeting on Jan. 27 were also reviewed and scheduled for an approval vote.

The next meeting will be taking place on March 30.
