Chatham considers rezoning, annexation agreement

Chatham

The Village of Chatham, Illinois Board of Trustees Committee of the Whole discussed an annexation agreement during a recent meeting.

During this meeting, property owned by Julie Lewis Spengler was discussed. The board considered a proposal to grant the property a B-2 or B-1 zoning classification. Spengler would utilize the property as a bed and breakfast operation. A B-1 classification was suggested since the B-2 classification would allow a wider range of business types over what the intended uses specified in the agreement.

The subject property, located on Mansion Road, is surrounded by residential districting. As a result of differing opinions on zoning it was decided that further discussion would be necessary at the next session.

This would also allow Spengler to provide input on the B-1 classification. The proposed annexation agreement initially requested the B-2 zoning. Through this annexation, the land in question would be divided into three sections that would include two business zones and one as a right-of-way for the village.

A public hearing was also held on Feb. 23 in order to allow public input into the annexation agreement.
