The Village of Chatham, Illinois announced this week that its Water Commissioner Terry Burke has issued his official resignation.
Village President Tom Gray has recommended that Chatham resident Ruth Bottrell be appointed to the position.
Bottrell has approximately 37 years of laboratory experience, specializing in microbiology. She has been certified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a Laboratory Evaluation Officer and has also worked with the state’s Department of Health until 2015.
In addition, Bottrell worked as a chemist with the City of Quincy Water Department.
Burke will continue to serve as a representative to the South Sangamon Water Commission Board until Bottrell or another replacement is finalized. Burke made the decision to step down in order to allow an individual who has more skills in presenting and speaking publicly to serve in this role.
Gray expressed appreciation for the work that was completed and the collaborative progress that has been achieved during Burke’s time as a commissioner for the village. Burke has also stated that he will assist the new commissioner during the transition.
The appointment of Bottrell will be considered at a future village board meeting.
