Springfield City Council approves contract amendments for Carpenter underpass

Springfieldil

The Springfield, Illinois City Council has approved an agreement with the state regarding the Carpenter Street underpass project.

The agreement was approved during a meeting earlier this month.

According to the city clerk’s website this ordinance amends an agreement with the Norfolk Southern Railway Co. after the company needed additional funding to perform flagging and track related work at the project site. The additional costs are to be reimbursed through the state’s Commerce Commission Grade Crossing Protection Fund. This measure was passed in unanimous fashion.

In addition to this measure, the council also approved a measure that would pay Norfolk Southern Railway a total of $359,317 for the additional work that it completed. This payment was made from Motor Fuel Tax Funds.

The council also approved an agreement with Motorola Solutions Inc. to purchase portable and mobile radios in addition to one control station and a seven-channel GTR8000 ASTRO Express Single Site Trunked System.

The council also considered the reclassification of an R-1, a single-family residence district at 1836 Groth St. to an I-2, which covers a heavy industrial district in accordance with code that oversees automobile graveyards, junkyards and automobile dismantling facilities. This site has been used for similar purposes for approximately 40 years.
