Tricia Burke has been named the new principal of Ball Elementary School as of July 1, the Ball-Chatham School District said recently.

Burke currently serves as assistant principal at Glenwood Elementary School. Burke has worked in the district for 18 years and has previously taught kindergarten, first and second grade, and has served as a literacy coach and reading interventionist.

“Having the opportunity to make a difference in students’ lives is a privilege and responsibility,” Burke said. “Collaborating with colleagues who are as passionate as I about instruction and student success is so fulfilling. I feel lucky to work with such an incredible group of educators.”

Burke has also said the largest challenges that education faces are time limitations and resource limitations. As principal, Burke said she will focus on the importance of utilizing resources efficiently and ensure that resources are made available to benefit students.

Burke holds two master’s degrees, one in educational leadership and the other in reading and literacy.

The school’s current principal, Joe Viola, will be resigning at the end of this school year after taking a position within the Rochester School District.
