Pleasant Plains CUSD board accepts resignations

The Pleasant Plains Community Unit School District 8 Board of Education met Aug. 22 to accept resignations.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the board:

"Unless otherwise stated, the Pleasant Plains Board of Education meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Library at the Pleasant Plains Middle School on the fourth Monday of each month. If the third Monday falls on a holiday, the meeting will be on the fourth Tuesday of the month."

BOARD OF EDUCATION MINUTES August 22, 2016 6:30p.m.

The Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Pieasant Plains Community Unit District No. 8 of Sangamon, Menard, and Morgan Counties, Illinois was held on August 22, 2016, at the middle school library, within the boundaries of the district. President Humphrey called the meeting to order and requested roll be called. The following members were present: Kyle Nestler, Cayla Keyes, Rachel Jachino, Brad Cowan, Tracy Reiser-Weiters, Amy Raftis and Gregg Humphrey

Administrators present: Matt Runge, Bill Dargert, Jill Lanier, Ben Theilen, and Jamie Yates, and Heather Greer, Luke Brooks, and Angie Heise

Visitors present: Members of Staff and community.

The consent agenda was presented and included approval of Agenda, 7-25-2016 Regular and Closed minutes, 7-25-2016 Claim/Accounts, and Treasurer's Report.

Mrs. Raftis made the motion to approve the following:

Mrs. Reiser-Weiters second the motion and roll was called.

Yea: Raftis, Cowan, Keyes, Jachino, Nestler, Reiser-Weiters, President Humphrey Nay: None Absent: None

Motion carried 7-0-0

Mrs. Hegel reported that all students at the Farmingdale School were where they needed to be and that the open house went well. Mr. Konig stated that the other building had reported that they all had a great first day,

Mr. Cowan started the board's encouraging words by thanking all the bus drivers for doing a great job on the first day of the routes. Mrs. Raftisthanked all the maintenance staff (Kevin Burns) on doing a fine job over the summer to get the school ready for another year. Mrs. Jachino thank the teachers and welcomed new families to the district, Mrs, Keyes thanked the Moms of Football and thanked the Fine Arts Club for the new license plates. Mr. Nestler thanked the teachers and staff for a great Pre-Night at Farmingdale Elementary,

Mr. Alec Mudra presented to the board his project for his Eagle Scout Award. Mr. Mudra would like to paint and update the Press Box and add a logo to the door. He would also repair and paint the picnic tables and expand the South side fence covers. Mr. Mudra explained that there would be no expense to the School district and that his fellow scout members would be helping him. The board thanked him and expressed their gratitude,

Superintendent Runge reported that three seats were up for reelection on the board this next April. Packets could be picked up starting September 19" and circulation could start September 20". He was reporting this to the Pleasant Plains Press and would also be on the school's website. Mr. Runge reported that the FY16 Audit was finished and Mr. Dargert would be conducting the exit interview on 8/23/2016. Mr. Runge also reminded the board and visitors that the Budget Hearing would be at 6:15pm on 9/26/2016.

Principals gave updates on student enrollment for the first day and reported on new hires for their buildings. Ms. Lanier reported that the new math textbooks are in the classrooms, curriculum maps were being wrapped up and Social studies map was a work in progress. Ms. Lanier updated the board on the P.E. teacher now required to do assessments 3'-12" grades, she went over how it will work and stated that we will be in compliance. Mrs. Lanier gave an update on PARG.testing and will be giving a presentation next month, C

Mr. Dargert updated the board on the transportation department stating that he had met with the drivers, all of them had driven their routes and confirmed times with their riders. Mr. Dargert gave an update on the roofing project at the elementary school which is still ongoing. He reported that the rainy weather has put them further behind they still have four or five more days of work left to Complete. Mr. Dargert reported that Serve-pro is still working on the water damage at the middle school gym. Mr. Dargert and Mr. Runge are working with the insurance Company to make Sure the floor is renovated completely. He also reported the financial audit went well and to finish up during the week,

Mr. Cowan made a motion to approve a five-year lease agreement for printer services with GFI. Mrs. Keyes seconded the motion and roll was called.

Motion carried 7-0

Mrs. Jachino made the motion to enter Executive Session. Mr. Nestler seconded the motion and motion carried on Voice Vote,

Board entered closed session at 6:58 p.m.

Mrs. Jachino made the motion to exit Executive Session. Mrs. Keyes seconded the motion and motion carried on Voice Vote.

Board returned to open session at 7:30p.m.

Mrs. Raftis made the motion to approve the resignation of Cindy Saxby, 1'-grade teacher; Nick Nielson MS individual Aide; Nick Morrison, Farmingdale individual Aide; Leanne Ross, Farmingdale Aide; Tammy Tewes, MS individual Aide and Christy Mars, MS kitchen employee. Mrs, Keyes seconded the motion and roll was called.

Motion carried 7-0

Mrs. Raftis made the motion to approve the employment of Tammy Tewes as 1' grade teacher; Donna Green, MS Cafeteria; Paul Johnston, Farmingdale Aide; Ben Dolan, HS Aide; Marlon Heyen, MS Cafeteria; Teresa Ingles, MS Aide; Chad Dixon, HS Volunteer Asst. Football Coach, Barry Slifer, HS Volunteer Asst. Football Coach (Pending Background check); Jake Gates, HS Aide and HS Volunteer Asst. Football Coach; fina Axel, MS Cafeteria; Katie Wasel, MS Band Contest; Jamie Yates, MS B Basebal Coach. Mr. Nestler seconded the motion and roll was called.

Motion carried 7-0

Mrs. Raftis made the motion to adjourn, Mrs. Jachino seconded the motion. Motion carried on Voice Wote. Meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
