Springfield ranked 303th in state in lottery ticket sales

The city of Springfield had the 303th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of June 2016 -- up 51 spots from its May ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Springfield was $22.81 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Sangamon Sun, Springfield generated $2,659,337.50 in net sales from its 92 lottery retailers in June 2016, compared to $2,837,924.50 in June 2015.


The city of Springfield is in Sangamon County, and has a population of 116,565, according to 2010 census data. Neighboring municipalities are Chatham, Grandview, Leland Grove, Curran, Jerome, Rochester, Sherman and Southern View.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in June 2016 was $25,435.74.

Springfield's top lottery retailer is Schnucks #718 located at 1911 E Sangamon Ave, Springfield, IL 62702.

Schnucks #718 generated 5 percent of Springfield's June 2016 lottery ticket sales and 4 percent of Sangamon County's sales that month, which was $3,128,597.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Sangamon County in 2015 were Williamsville, Springfield, Pleasant Plains, Illiopolis and Mechanicsburg.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
