Stacey passed out paperwork regarding the March 20, 2018 Primary Election. (dates & signatures info) County Clerk Gray reported that in preparation of moving to a digital environment, his office has packaged up all the hard copies of registrations. They will store these at the Public Health Building. Today all the registrations are digitized.
Gray says that he co-authored an article with Dave Kelm that was in Sunday's paper. It was about the decentralized system of elections and how that will help to maintain the integrity of our voting system
Gray also says that his office is working anywhere with schools to be on-site for registration so his office can print certified birt certificates. Cost is the same as it would be if a person were to come into the vital records department. Gray's office is also going to keep the mobile unit going for a few months.
Gray says his office is trying to be more proactive in voter registration events. His office is working closely with the Sangamon County Farm Bureau, Faith Coalition, organized labor groups & senior living facilities. They are working anywhere with any place that might have a high propensity of folks who need to register or have changes. We could take care of this early and keep our voter rolls accurate. Gray asked the committee if they have any other ideas, let his office know. His office is also working with surrounding School districts to get qualified 17 year olds registered who will turn 18 before election day.
The requisitions were reviewed and signed. Bunch motioned to approve the requisitions and Forsyth seconded. Motion carried (9-0).
There was no old business or public comment. Hall mentioned that there is a lady in his district who will turn 106 and she first voted in 1929. Her name is Gloria Huffman.
Bunch motioned to adjourn and Scaife seconded. Motion carried (9-0) and the meeting adjourned at 4:45 pm.
