The calls in Springfield included 520 fires - 232 structure fires, 70 vehicle fires and 201 other fires. The fire department also responded to 17 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.
In all, the department saw $4,471,140 in fire loss - or about $8,598 per fire.
The department also received two false calls, including 50 malicious calls and 2 other false calls.
The calls resulted in 25 civilian fire-related injuries and two civilian fire-related deaths. Additionally, 11 fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and 12 were injured in non fire-related incidents.
The Springfield Firefighter's Pension Fund, which has 217 active employees and 242 retired or inactive employees, was $19,371,793 in debt as of February 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $37,253 for every fire in 2016.
