Springfield, Illinois, is set to host the largest air-supported sports dome in the world with the upcoming opening of Scheels Sports Park. Construction began in 2023, and the project is on schedule to open this fall. Scott Dahl, Springfield's tourism director, stated that the park is projected to draw 200,000 visitors annually and generate $30 million in revenue each year.

The sports complex will offer a variety of activities for school athletes, including baseball, softball, football, and soccer outdoors. Inside the dome, basketball, volleyball, and soccer facilities will be available.

State Representative Mike Coffey highlighted the positive impact of the new sports complex on Springfield's 95th District. "The Scheels Sports Park is fantastic for Springfield and I’m looking forward to seeing the community and out-of-town visitors take advantage of everything it has to offer," Coffey said. "This project is going to boost tourism and our local economy."
