Riverton Village Board of Trustees met September 18. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

The President and the Board of Trustees of the Village of Riverton held their regular board meeting on September 18th, 2017 at the Riverton Village Hall, Riverton, IL.


The board meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. Those answering roll call: Mayor Tom Rader. Trustees: Russ Patrick, Dave Charles, Chris Collins, Joe Bartley, Jim Mileham, and Michelle Landess. Also in attendance were: Chief Lawley, Superintendent Lyons, Office Manager Stacy Patterson, Attorney John Myers, and Treasurer Lashonda Fitch.

The pledge of allegiance was recited.

Trustee Bartley made a motion to approve September 5th meeting minutes and pay the bills. It was seconded by Trustee Mileham. Trustees Charles, Patrick, Collins, Bartley,Mileham, and Landess voted yes.

Jeff King came forward to represent the Glen Acres Subdivision. Their 12th annual block party will be on 10/14 from 2pm- 12am. They will be accepting donations for the Food Pantry. The board had no objections.

Kent Massie came forward to give a presentation. There are four communities in a pilot that they are working on: Auburn, Dawson, Riverton, and Illiopolis. The point of this is to help with regional connectivity and develop character within communities. It is funded through the Department of Transportation. The plan is to dress up street signs, have a destination sign at the entrances into town, and have wayside signs that include Riverton history, the town website, etc. He will be getting more detailed plans to the board in about one month with some more ideas.

Old Business:

Trustee Collins made a motion to approve the change order for the concrete work of $5166.00. Trustee Bartley seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Collins, Bartley, Mileham, and Landess voted yes.

Trustee Charles made a motion to approve the cost of $9198.00 for the concrete pads at the F.O.D. Trustee Collins seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Collins, Bartley, Mileham, and Landess voted yes.

New Business:

As of 9/29, Pat Faires will be resigning from the Zoning board. He will be moving out of Riverton.

Trustee Bartley made a motion to approve Joe Betz as Chairman for the Zoning Board. Trustee Collins seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Collins, Bartley, Mileham, and Landess voted yes.

Trustee Bartley made a motion to approve Ord #17- 026 Ordinance Approving Changes to Chapters 73 of Riverton Municipal Code. Trustee Charles seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Collins, Bartley, Mileham, and Landess voted yes.

Superintendent Lyons presented the board with his report. (See attached report).

Deputy Chief Landgrebe presented the board with his report. (See attached report).

Office Manager Patterson had nothing to report.

Treasurer Fitch stated that she received the Library Tax Levy info and they asked for 4.99%.

Trustee Landess, chairman of the Administration Committee, stated that the garage 1 cameras are up and running.

Trustee Mileham, chairman of the Public Safety Committee, had nothing to report.

Trustee Patrick, chairman of the Public Utility Committee, had nothing to report.

Trustee Charles, chairman of the Parks Committee, stated that youth baseball thanked the board for their help with the new fence. Mayor Rader mentioned that he got in touch with Mrs. Antonucci and they will be having a preliminary meeting to discuss the property.

Trustee Collins, chairman of the Public Works Committee, had nothing to report.

Trustee Bartley, chairman of the Economic Development Committee, stated that the Homecoming parade is on 10/4 at 5:45, there is an open house at the Firehouse on 10/4 from 6:30-8:00, and the Christian Church pancake breakfast is 9/30 from 7am -11am.

Mayor Rader stated that the board has previously donated $500 to the Clearlake Township Family Wishes Program and it usually comes out of the community donation fund.

Trustee Bartley made a motion to donate $500 to the Clearlake Township Family Wishes Program. Trustee Mileham seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Collins, Bartley, Mileham, and Landess voted yes.

Trustee Landess made a motion to go into closed session to discuss personnel at 8:12. Trustee Mileham seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Collins, Bartley, Mileham, and Landess voted yes.

The board went into open session with a motion from Trustee Landess. Trustee Mileham seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Collins, Bartley, Mileham, and Landess voted yes.

Trustee Mileham made a motion to hire Trish Summerson effective 9/19 as a part time officer with hours not to exceed 1000/year. Trustee Bartley seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Collins, Bartley, Mileham, and Landess voted yes.

Trustee Landess made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:54. Trustee Collins seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Collins, Bartley,Mileham, and Landess voted yes.
