City of Petersburg Council met December 5. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the council:

I. Call to Order

Mayor Rick Snyder called the City Council to order at 7:05 p.m.

II. Preliminary Matters

A. Members present were Mayor Rick Snyder, Aldermen Kevin Molohon, Nathan Grosboll, Andrew Gain, Bruce Gorman, and Keith Wilson. Also present were Treasurer Dave Frick, City Clerk Ken Ortman and City Attorney Chris Sherer. Alderman Sonnemaker was absent.

B. Mayor Snyder led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.

C. A motion was made by Alderman Molohon and seconded by Alderman Gorman to approve the agenda as Presented. VOTES: Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes, Wilson, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

III. City Clerk

A. The City Clerk presented the Warrant List and Accounts Payable. A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman grosboll to approve payment of the bills as listed on the Warrant List and Accounts Payable. VOTES: Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Wilson, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

B. A motion was made by Alderman Grosboll and seconded by Alderman Wilson to approve the minutes of November 21, 2017 Regular Meeting. VOTES: Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Wilson, yes; Gorman, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

IV. Departmental Reports

A. Police

Chief Coulter gave the Police report. The Department had 241 CAD calls. The new Dodge Durango arrived on November 13th. The equipment has been stripped from the white Ford F150 and has been traded in. We are waiting on getting the vehicle into Tureline in Jacksonville to have the radio and computer equipment installed. Officer Nichols attended a 40 hour training class on Crisis Intervention.

B. Streets

None

C. Water

None

D. Zoning

The mayor reported on the charges for the project done on the property at 7th and Rutledge. The City Attorney will have it all drawn up and will be presented to the Judge to have proper support if the property owner does not follow through with payment.

E. Fire

For the last month they have had 20 calls. They have 2 guys still in Fire College in Sherman. They have gotten done with First Mod. the first of three. Truck one tested the ladder. We found a company in Lincoln. That can work on the out rigger for the ladder truck. Had a company come in with a crain to move the training boxes to the pads that were poured last year.

V. Officers’ Reports

A. Mayor’s Report

City Hall was contracted by River Bank Lodge and Hand of Fate Brewery requesting their liquor license be extended to 1 A.M. for New Years Eve. Hand of Fate would also like to extend their area to drink a little into the parking area to give room for their ball drop.

The City has received a flag for the year long Bi-Centennial celebration The Two Hundredth Anniversary for the State of Illinois. It is mounted on a pole extending from the front of City Hall.

Alderman Sonnemaker arrived at 7:20 p.m.

B. Treasurer’s Report

Nothing has changed on the Tax Levy. We will have it ready for next meeting to sign and turn it over to the County. The City would like to thank City Attorney Chris Sherer for the donation to the City’s Christmas Party.

VI. Standing Committees’ Report

A. Tree Committee

The Tree Committee Minutes of November 2017 were presented. A motion by Alderman Gorman seconded by Alderman Gain to accept the Tree Committee Minutes as presented. VOTES: Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Wilson, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

VII. Special Committees’ Report

Two weeks from today at 6:00 P.M. the Building and Grounds Committee will meet with the Edgar Lee Masters Board to go over the contract and discuss the accounting of assets.

VIII. Hearing Of Citizens

Charlie Angel spoke about purchasing the meter that is between well 7 and 8. After discussion the Mayor will set up a meeting with him, Dave Troxell and Charlie Angel to discuss the issue.

X. Old Business

Golf Cart Ordinance. Discussion on if it should only include just golf carts or include side by sides. Three Aldermen were for including side by side. Discussion of the fee, and making a final draft to present to City Attorney for write up.

X. New Business

A comment made by Alderman Gorman on the lights around the city. He thought it looked really great. A reminder that the Christmas luncheon is Dec 12. Discussion of a Sign for the Police Department on the front of City hall.

XII. Adjournment

A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman Grosboll to adjourn the meeting. VOTES: Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Wilson, yes; Sonnemaker, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED. Meeting Adjourned at 7:44p.m.
