New Berlin-Island Grove Fire Protection District responded to 36 calls in 2017 - 80 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in New Berlin-Island Grove included 30 fires - 12 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 11 other fires.

In all, the department saw $5,500 in fire loss - or about $183 per fire.

The department also received six false calls, including one malicious call and five other false calls.
