Menard County Public Building Study Group met May 2.

Here is the minutes provided by the Advisory Board:

The Menard County Public Building Study Group (PBSG), an advisory board appointed by the Menard County Board of Commissioners, met at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the Menard County Courthouse located at 102 South Seventh Street, Petersburg. Menard County Board Chair Robert Lott, Commissioner Ed Whitcomb, PBSG Member Steve Ozella, PBSG Member Dan Ortgessen, and PBSG Member Joe Hemberger were in attendance. Carl Fischer and County Coordinator Dara Worthington were also in attendance.

Members first viewed the newly installed windows on the third floor. There was a brief discussion about how to proceed with the woodwork that was missing.

There group returned to the boardroom where Steve Ozella called the meeting to order at 6:45 PM. Joe Hemberger made a motion to approve the minutes from the November 20, 2017 meeting. Commissioners Bob Lott seconded. Motion carried.

There were no unscheduled guests.

The draft of the proposed Solar Ordinance was discussed next upon recommendation of Brian Hollenkamp who is overseeing the project. Board members were given an overview of the status of county farm’s solar project.

Up next was the Animal Control facility. It was reported that the USDA grant had not gone through yet. There was discussion regarding the funding source for possible erection of a shell as well as having the Menard Animal Protection group being involved with the finishing of the building. It was noted that the project will need to be bid with prevailing wage. Further meetings will be needed to determine the direction taken.

Joe Hemberger reported that he had not received a bid on window trim for the third floor windows. Steve Ozella will contact a local woodworker about ideas for finishing out the trim. Joe will check back with the contractor who was going to give a bid.

Carl Fischer reported that he had a November 2017 price for a 10’ x 16’ canopy kit for the main door of the courthouse. The package is $15,000 for a steel kit including delivery, but not installation. The group will look into the location of the parking lot conduit.

The antique windows removed from the third floor include eight large and four small. There was discussion about selling the windows as a fundraiser for further courthouse projects or Animal Control. A board member will check further into a fundraiser.

With no further business, Joe Hemberger made a motion to adjourn at 7:37 PM and Dan Ortgessen seconded. Meeting adjourned.
