Menard County Public Building Study Group met May 23.

Here is the minutes provided by the Advisory Board:

The Menard County Public Building Study Group (PBSG), an advisory board appointed by the Menard County Board of Commissioners, met at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at the Menard County Courthouse located at 102 South Seventh Street, Petersburg. Menard County Board Chair Robert Lott, Commissioner Ed Whitcomb, PBSG Member Steve Ozella, PBSG Member Dan Ortgessen, and PBSG Member Joe Hemberger were in attendance. Carl Fischer and County Coordinator Dara Worthington were also in attendance.

Steve Ozella called the special meeting to order at 6:30 PM.

There were no unscheduled guests.

Plans for the Animal Control facility were the purpose of the special meeting. Commissioner Whitcomb relayed that a group had met with a builder about a new facility. Whitcomb complimented and thanked Dan Ortgessen for his time and the work he invested in plans that were drawn up.

Ortgessen distributed copies of his drawing of a proposed facility. The rendering is for a 36’ x 48’ x 10’ building. Rough estimates for erection of this shell alone are $30,000 - $35,000. Concrete costs were estimated at $11,000 although Dan thought it could be cheaper. The figure does not include insulation. Stamped drawings can be obtained.

After much discussion, it was the consensus of the entire group that Menard Animal Protection should be contacted to determine the level of interest and commitment they have to contributing to this project. Once that is determined, the county board should be able to determine whether or not to move forward with the project.

Dan Ortgessen will provide a list of what is needed to finish the interior of the building and have it ready to be sent out to members present prior to the next meeting which is scheduled for June 6.

The old third floor windows were discussed regarding fundraising for the project. Commissioner Whitcomb indicated that Brad Willis had contacted MAP and would need to report on that at the next meeting.

The courthouse parking lot trenching was discussed with Steve Ozella sharing drawings indicating where the phone and fiber lines run as well as enter the building. They should not create a problem if it’s decided to erect a canopy over the main entrance.

With no further business, Joe Hemberger made a motion to adjourn at 7:35 PM and Dan Ortgessen seconded. Meeting adjourned.
