City of Petersburg Council met June 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

I. Call To Order

Mayor Rick Snyder called the City Council to order at 7:00 p.m.

II. Preliminary Matters

A. Members present were Mayor Rick Snyder, Aldermen Kevin Molohon, Andrew Gain, Bruce Gorman, Rick Sonnemaker, and Keith Wilson. Also present were Treasurer Dave Frick, City Clerk Ken Ortman and City Attorney Chris Sherer. Alderman Nathan Grosboll was absent.

B. Mayor Snyder led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.

C. A motion was made by Alderman Gain and seconded by Alderman Sonnemaker to approve the agenda as Presented. Votes: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Gain, yes; Wilson, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the Motion Carried.

III. City Clerk

A. The City Clerk presented the Warrant List and Accounts Payable. A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman Wilson to approve payment of the bills as listed on the Warrant List and Accounts Payable. Votes: Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Gain, yes; Wilson, yes; Sonnemaker, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the Motion Carried.

B. A motion was made by Alderman Molohon and seconded by Alderman Sonnemaker to approve the minutes of June 5, 2018 Regular Meeting. Votes: Molohon, yes; Gain, yes; Wilson, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the Motion Carried.

C. A Motion was made by Alderman Wilson seconded by Alderman Gorman to approve the minutes of the June 12, 2018 Finance Committee Meeting. Votes: Gain, yes; Wilson, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the Motion Carried.

D. A Motion was made by Alderman Gorman seconded by Alderman Wilson to approve Ordinance 2018-09 Ordinance Ascertaining And Adopting Prevaling Rate Of Wage. Votes: Gain, yes; Wilson, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the Motion Carried.

IV. Departmental Reports

A. Police

None

B. Water

1. Water Collectors Report. For this month, first billing month of the fiscal year we have collected over $18,000 more than this month last year. She has quite a few pool adjustments and leaks. Discussion was held about setting a minimum on what would be given on leaks. The Water Committee should meet to discuss this. A motion made by Alderman Gorman Seconded by Alderman Gain to approve the Water Collectors report and adjustments as presented. Votes: Wilson, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Gain, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the Motion Carried.

2. Water Superintendent’s Report. Read the meters in 2.5 days. Pumped, treated and distributed 9,937,000 gallons of water. Collected, treated and discharged approximately 5,460,000 gallons of waste water. The approximate water loss of treated water due to backwashing was 147,000 gallons.

C. Streets

1. Street Superintendent’s Report. The City Wide Clean up is complete. Working on replacing bad sidewalks. All the City street signs have been painted or replaced. All the golf cart crossing signs are up. We have placed warning signs at each entrance to town. Working on cutting trees and stumps. Red Chevy needs a transmission at a price of $1890.

2. Petition for work on Sheridan Bridge. This will allow the County to help with the Sheridan Street Bridge project. A motion made by Alderman Gorman seconded by Alderman Wilson to approve and allow the Mayor to sign the Petition Of The City Of Petersburg, In Menard County, Illinois For County Aid To Construct And Repair Bridges, Culverts, Drainage Structures Or Grade Separations, Including Approaches Thereto. Votes: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Gain, yes; Wilson, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the Motion Carried.

D. Zoning

None

V. Officers’ Reports

A. Mayor’s Report

1. The Mayor issued the Committee Assignments.

2. Discussion of the FOP Contract. A motion made by Alderman Molohon seconded by Alderman Sonnemaker to accept the Police Contract with the FOP. Votes: Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Gain, yes; Wilson, yes; Sonnemaker, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the Motion Carried.

3. Sales Tax Discussion. The Mayor has been meeting the Chamber Members to discuss the issue and it seems everyone was for it. He has also talked to some local business’s and they are all for it. We will try to schedule a town hall meeting the week of June 24th.

4. Gift Certificate for Donnie Witherell. The mayor would like to get a Gift Certificate for all the volunteer work that he has done in hooking up the electricity for festivals and power use by the city. A motion made by Alderman Gorman seconded by Alderman Gain to give Donnie Witherell a $100 Gift Certificate to the place of the Mayors choice. Votes: Molohon, yes; Gain, yes; Wilson, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the Motion Carried.

B. Treasurer’s Report

1. The Treasurers Report was presented. A motion made by Alderman Molohon seconded by Alderman Gorman to approve the Treasurers Report. Votes: Gain, yes; Wilson, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the Motion Carried.

VIII. Hearing Of Citizens

None

X. Old Business

Question on the Storage at the Poultry Plant. It looks like it has been taken care of.

X. New Business

1. Discussion on the Budget for the Police Department hiring a new officer and getting into the IMRF Retirement.

XII. Adjournment

A motion was made by Alderman Gain and seconded by Alderman Gorman to adjourn the meeting. Votes: Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Gain, yes; Wilson, yes; Sonnemaker, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the Motion Carried. Meeting Adjourned at 8:13 pm
