City of Springfield issued the following announcement on July 23.
Springfield Fire crews responded to a Structure Fire at 2860 Stevenson
Drive in a 2 story multi unit occupied motel. Engine 2 arrived 2 minutes after dispatch to find heavy fire
was showing from unit 303. They were able to contain the fire mostly to the single unit with smoke
damage throughout.
Two civilians were transported with non life threatening injuries.
This was a code one (first alarm) fire which was under control at 5:04 a.m. The last units cleared at 5:59
a.m. once the building was overhauled and ventilated.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
