How much has Lincoln ESD 27 overspent over the past 10 years?

Lincoln Elementary School District 27 accumulated $3.94 million in debt between fiscal years 2008 and 2017, according to a Sangamon Sun analysis of public schools data.

Spending and revenue data obtained for this analysis comes from the Illinois Local Education Agency Retrieval Network (ILEARN), which is part of the Illinois State Board of Education and collects data annually on school district financials.

Over the 10-year span, Lincoln ESD 27 reported 12.7 percent more revenue. At the same time, total spending went up 14.4 percent. The resulting deficit grew by 55.8 percent from 2008 to 2017.
