New Berlin Community Unit School District 16 students suspended 27 times in a single school year

New Berlin Community Unit School District 16 reported 27 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 27 students during the year. That equates to 2.9 percent of the 935 students enrolled.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes five incidents. There were four incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 14 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence that caused physical injury. The category includes eight incidents. There were three incidents of violence without physical injury. For 10 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
